From the Assistant Minister…
I do hope that you are finding Lent a helpful time, in your praying and in your Scripture reading day by day.
What are you learning in Lent this year? What has excited you about your faith in the living Lord Jesus? What are you looking forward to in the journey through Holy Week?
Today we begin the two-week period called Passiontide. This name is intended to help us sharpen our focus towards Easter, through and past the triumphal entry into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday and on towards the Cross - and through the Cross to all that lies beyond.
One of the Lenten themes for me this year has been ‘newness’. We can rejoice in the wonder for the Christian of forgiveness and a new life in Christ. His gift to us – the Holy Spirit – means that we can have the Lord with us and in us and can live that new life which Christ brings, in His power.
Our two set Bible readings today pick up this sense of the new, new sight for the blind and new life. “... you shall know that I am the LORD, when I ...raise you from your graves, O my people. And I will put my Spirit within you, and you shall live...”. These are words from God, which Ezekiel heard in his third vision. They speak a resounding message to us from six centuries before Jesus’ incarnation, that if there is to be life as God intends for us, then it must be by God’s power and His Spirit. The Apostle Paul used not dissimilar language to help us, when he wrote that, without a personal saving knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ, we are dead in our sins.
Chocolate is great, but on Easter Day why not give yourself a real treat and read the whole of Revelation chapter 21, all about newness - ‘And he who was seated on the throne said, “Behold, I am making all things new” (v.5). Hallelujah!
To Him be the glory, now and to the day of eternity – Amen.
Godfrey

Church News
Operations Manager
Our prayers, best wishes and congratulations go to Jo Evans, our much loved and respected Operations Manager, who is returning to work as a Civil Servant with the Home Office. Jo has distinguished herself by her quiet, conscientious and efficient manner amongst our staff and congregations. I know the wardens, staff team team and treasurer have all appreciated her partnership in many areas of church life. She has helped our new Curate, Ben Lacey, establish himself into a new property and of course we are all beneficiaries of her work in enabling us to have a new carpet and redecoration in church.
Jo will leave at the end of April, though will be on hand up until then to support church operations including our new computer system which she has been leading with Richard Donkin. Do pray for Jo and the team I appoint alongside the wardens to appoint her successor.
