We teach students how to generate relaxed power, to move efficiently and defend themselves when necessary.

We are a friendly diverse group of adults.

Balkan Dance - Horo Sheffield

Horo Sheffield is the home of Balkan Dance, group folk dancing, in Sheffield.

The dances are social activities so everybody is involved and, as well as being fun, it is also great exercise to wonderful music! The session will consist of a couple of demonstration dances followed by easier dances for people to participate.

Art Group

A chance to view the artwork from this relaxed, friendly group of ‘budding artists’ who are guided and tutored by Martin Field a retired art teacher, and to ask questions about the group.

The group have explored pencil drawing, pastel, water-colour, and acrylic painting from a range of subject matter. This is not a rigid format and members are able to follow their own path. In summer they sketch and paint outdoors in Sheffield and the surrounding countryside, weather permitting.

Alexander Technique

The Alexander Technique is a method proven to reduce back, neck and postural pain, by helping you identify and remove unhelpful movement habits.

It is a practical method of becoming mindful of habits which cause long term harm to our bodies.

Life Yoga

Classes are aimed at all abilities.  Students are asked to listen in to THEIR bodies, to practice with physical awareness and welcomed sensations only.  Postures are chosen for their physical benefit to the student.  Students are asked to tune in to their breath and tension patterns.

Classes include classic asana, functional movement and techniques gleaned from Somatic movement and Fascia release with the aim of strengthening and freeing up movement to the practitioner. Classes are taught mindfully, paying attention to the fact that not everyone’s body is the same and everyone has their own limits.

Let’s Tango for Parkinson’s

Our group is called Argentine Tango for Parkinson's Plus as we opened this group up to others to enjoy. There is no need for previous dance experience at all and we adapt to suit people's abilities and restrictions. As the dance is based on a walk, we feel it is really accessible to most people. You could bring a partner or friend with you if you wish, but it is not essential.  You just need a pair of shoes that will move smoothly on the wooden floor of the hall and a smile!

We will introduce people to the idea that this dance is an improvised dance, so no need to learn complex patterns or moves.  The idea of walking together with a partner will be shown and how that can easily be transformed into moving together to start dancing. We could use a variety of traditional or more modern music.  We can show how this dance could help to improve posture, balance, flow of movement with a real sense of fun.
